EXCLUSIVE: Homeland executive producer Howard Gordon and writer Josh Friedman have teamed for a high-concept drama project, which has landed a rich premium script deal at NBC. The untitled project, from 20th Century Fox TV and Gordon’s studio-based Teakwood Lane, is described as a thriller soap set in a world much like ours, where human-looking robots are commonplace. After a routine homicide explodes into the first robot-on-human murder, the lead detective must solve the case and investigate a growing robot rebellion while dealing with the impact on his own fractured family. This marks the first project to come out of Teakwood Lane, which Gordon launched last month.

Friedman will write the script with Gordon supervising. The two will executive produce with Teakwood Lane’s head of TV Hugh Fitzpatrick. This marks a familiar territory for Friedman who helmed another series of projects about a world where humans and robots co-exist, Fox’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. His pilot scripts the last two years both went to pilot at Fox, Locke & Key and The Asset. UTA-repped Friedman also co-wrote the 2005 alien invasion movie War Of The Worlds. This marks Friedman’s first project at NBC and Gordon’s return to the network where he executive produced Awake last season.

A 25-year veteran Gordon, repped by WME and attorney Michael Gendler, first gained attention for his work on the hit Fox/20th TV series The X-Files and was the showrunner and executive producer of 24 for which he received both the Golden Globe and the Emmy for Best Drama Series. His other credits include Angel, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Beauty And The Beast, Sisters and Spenser: For Hire.

Scale 1-10 – how rad was it to get to be a liquid terminator?

10. Overloading 10. As I mentioned earlier, my mother was dying when I was doing that TV show “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”, and anybody who has ever lost anything or anybody knows what that feeling is like when you feel completely helpless. So, to go to work every day, drive my car into the old Warner Brothers lot where my heroes like Bette Davis made movies, park my car, and go into this whole sci- fi fantastical world where I was indestructible and fully in control and to change people’s lives with just one flick of my sworded wrist was so much fun and so exciting. I can’t even put it into words. It was just such a joyous gift in a very dark time in my life. It was also thrilling just to learn something new, something I’d never done before, and I was scared. It’s just ridiculous. I can’t even believe that that happened to me. I think it was on my fourth audition, as I was leaving, they said let’s just tell her, “You’ve got the job.” And then I had to go to the carpark where my husband was waiting for me, and I just managed to keep a complete game face. We drove for a bit and then I went, “I got the gig!” That was awesome.

The GRIMM FAIRY TALES Animated Series will be based on Zenescope Entertainment’s popular comic book series of the same name. What makes this situation unique is that Zenescope has teamed with Titmouse Animation Studio and Director Jon Schnepp (Metalocalypse, The Venture Bros.) to bypass the traditional film studio system by seeking funding for the animated series through popular website Kickstarter.com (http://kck.st/wjSM8D ). The project is live on Kickstarter now until May 1st, 2012 and has a pledge goal of $175,000.

“We set the goal of the animated series at 175K because we wanted to give our fans and those supporting the Kickstarter a high-quality product.” Explains Zenescope Marketing Manager Stephen Haberman “We’re hiring Titmouse, one of the premiere animation studios in the world, to handle the animation. We have Jon Shnepp directing and now with Lena and Briana joining the project, we’re able to take it to another level.”

“Crowd-funding can be a powerful tool. We’ve seen some really projects find funding through Kickstarter and it’s a game changer.” Said Zenescope’s Editor-in-Chief, Ralph Tedesco “It gives us a chance to make this series the way our fans want to see it be made. We’re about a third of the way there with funding and hopefully now with the all of the talent we’ve brought on board fans will see that this can be an amazing project to back.”
